XC Loop 6km Medium – “the gold rush”
Starting from the winery, you travel along Georgie’s magic climb, which takes you up up and all you notice is the great view and a few technical challenges. Kangaroo alert. Skirting the summit of the little hill you turn towards the vineyard. You will pass the big dam at the head of the dam, then 2km of open flowing track with heaps of passing opportunities. The next section of track is known as Kennedy’s rush, where you can clock up amazing speed. Across the gully and past a disused gold mine shaft, then a short climb back to the vineyard. Through some single track in the area known as Hayden’s Hollow and then a rather nasty pinch climb. The good news is that is the last climbing for the loop. Onto the old vehicle track for a kilometer of flat out gravity. Cruise along the front lane and up the driveway to the winery.
This loop was used for the 2012 Victorian State Series – Round 1.
Hill Climb 4km Tough – “the heart attack”
Beginning at the front gate the track starts on easy dirt road taking you past the vineyard. Then things get a little harder, as you start to climb up Kennedy’s Valley. This valley is named after the last old-timer gold prospector in the Glenpatrick region. At 2km the real punishment begins, up until the 3km mark. A short respite before the grueling last kilometer rising 70m to the summit. With your heart pumping you will enjoy the spectacular views of the Pyrenees Ranges and west to the Grampians.
From the top of the hill are a number of routes to take you back down.
Vineyard loop 3km Easy – “the sunday picnic”
Beginning at the front gate the track starts on easy dirt road taking you to the vineyard. Stop at the gazebo, and enjoy the view over the vines. There are picnic facilities available in the gazebo. Back along the track, at Highgate take the old vehicle track for a kilometer of flat out gravity. Cruise along the front lane and up the driveway to the winery.
